Playlist: 10 essential Kanye West songs to get you pumped for the 2014 X-Games (plus more tracks you need to know)

By Eric Webb

Yeezus walks among us — or he soon will, that is.

The 2014 X Games, which wheels into Austin on June 6-8, released its music lineup today, as Deborah Sengupta Stith reports. It's a motley crew of acts that also somehow makes perfect sense for a music festival at an extreme sports showcase. There's an electronic dance smorgasbord (Pretty Lights, Cash Cash, Dillon Francis); frat rap (Mac Miller); bands pandering to the illicit substance lobby (Flaming Lips, Slighty Stoopid, Wavves); a dash of mohawk rock (Bad Religion); and a little local flavor (Gary Clark Jr.). But sitting on the throne at the top of the list, eclipsing even the flamboyant Wayne Coyne? The man, the legend, the ego himself: Kanye West.

West is no stranger to ATX. His SXSW show at the Seaholm Power Plant in 2011 is the stuff of legend; he took the ACL Fest stage later that fall for a spectacular headliner gig. Stay tuned, because combining the unpredicatable West with a high-octane weekend of wheelies and wipeouts might just be the most extreme sport of all. If you've seen the video for "Touch the Sky," you know Kanye and bike tricks are a match made in heaven.

Now, we here at Team 360 consider ourselves part-time Yeezologists. Don't get the hype about Kim Kardashian's fiance but have an open-mind? Already own "The College Dropout" on vinyl but want to get your adrenaline pumping a few months in advance? Want a preview of the other bands set to take the stage? Listen to ten Kanye classics that will get you in the mood for the X Games, as well as tracks from the other featured acts, in our 2014 X Games playlist on Spotify.
