Update: First SXSW wristbands sold out, next batch on sale Feb. 6

Update: South by Southwest reports that the first batch of wristbands has sold out, and the next round, for $189, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at wristbands.sxsw.com.

Earlier: Wristbands for the South By Southwest Music Festival go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday at wristbands.sxsw.com.

The price, including tax, is $169 and only Austin residents are eligible; a credit card with an Austin billing Zip code is required (see the list of qualifying Zip codes on the wristbands website).

More than 2,000 bands are expected at the March festival, , which is March 11-16 and a music conference. Melissa Etheridge  and Blondie, who will perform and be a featured interview, are among those announced so far, with more on the way, including a keynote speaker. Local acts with official showcases include Bright Light Social Hour, Akkina Adderley & the Vintage Playboys, Alpha Rev, Foot Patrol, Zeale and Holiday Mountain.
