It's the rumble in the capital, it's the hippies versus the cowboys, it's Austin Psych Fest versus Lone Star Jam. Two festivals will duke it out for the privilege of Austin's musical attention this weekend, and it is on. This week's playlist will help you figure out which stage should get your ear.

Austin Psych Fest, which according to its website spotlights "the best new vanguards of mind expanding music," will set up shop for the seventh time Friday at Carson Creek Ranch. The fest, co-founded by local band The Black Angels, features art-friendly acts like The Brian Jonestown Massacre, "Veronica Mars" theme-makers The Dandy Warhols, Daft Punk collaborator Panda Bear, '60s legends The Zombies, buzz band The War on Drugs, erstwhile Outback Steakhouse jingle band Of Montreal, outrageous rockers Black Lips, local electrosmiths The Octopus Project and many more. Tickets are available for the entire weekend or for single days.

Lone Star Jam, which touts itself as the Austin area's biggest country music concert of the year, will bring its own down-home style to the LBJ Library Lawn on Saturday and Sunday. Featured acts include Nutty Brown legends Randy Rogers Band, Amarillo's own Kevin Fowler, Red Dirt favorites Reckless Kelly, "Saturday Night" singer Wade Bowen and Mack and McConaughey's friend Jack Ingram. One- and two-day tickets, as well as VIP passes, are on sale now.

Listen to our playlist to get a handle on what each musical showcase has to offer, and may the best fest win.
