Local music advocacy group AMP, or Austin Music People, will hold a two-day festival/fundraiser on Aug. 23 and 24. The event, which they're calling United We Jam, will feature "Austin artists playing at Austin venues for Austin fans" and will take place at various clubs on Red River and the East side. There is no word yet on lineup or ticket prices.
AMP, which recently held its first Unwind gala at ACL Live with performances from Shaky Graves, Alejandro Escovedo and Mother Falcon, among others, formed in 2011.
From the press release:
Austin Music People (AMP) today announced the debut of AMP's UNITED WE JAM, a two-day music event featuring Austin artists playing Austin venues for Austin fans. The event is a fundraiser for AMP, the nonprofit trade association for Austin's $1.6 billion music industry.
AMP's UNITED WE JAM will take place on August 23 and 24, 2013 at a variety of home-grown live music venues on Red River Street and the East Side, including the Mohawk and the White Horse. The event will feature only Austin-based artists, performing in local venues that have a demonstrated commitment to live music.
"What makes AMP's UNITED WE JAM distinctive is its commitment to showcasing exclusively local music," says AMP Executive Director Jennifer Houlihan. "It's our way of saying thank you to both Austin artists and to the people of Austin for their year-round support of live music."
She adds, "There are no wristbands, no VIP tickets, and no street closures for this event. We're working on making sure ticket prices are affordable for anyone who wants to enjoy local music."
Events like these raise funds for AMP's work representing all facets of Austin's music industry with state and local government officials and with civic and cultural leaders, says Houlihan.
"Support from the community helps us continue the complex research that informs AMP projects like our biennial white paper on the State of the Austin Music Industry, and to gather the data we use to make the case for supporting Austin music and our musicians and other industry professionals year-round," she says.
Tickets for AMP's UNITED WE JAM go on sale July 9.
