Sin City gets clobbered at the box office

By Joe Gross

Nine years is apparently too long between “Sin City” movies.

Robert Rodriguez’s “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” opened in eighth place the weekend of Aug. 22 to 24 with just $6.48 million in 2,894 theaters for a rough average $2,238 per screen. The original opened in first in 2005 with $29,120,273 in 3,230 theaters for $9,015 average.

Rodriguez has had brutal luck with movie sequels of late. Last year’s “Machete Kills” did about $8 million of business.

However, his El Rey Network will start shooting the second season of “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series” in October. The first season in available on Netflix.

Perhaps “Machete” (or “Sin City” for that matter) could move to the small screen.
