Oct. 6, 2005 The George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center hosts a 'Conversation with the Blues' 7 p.m. Oct. 13. The chat features Austin bluesman guitarist Henry 'Blues Boy' Hubbard and trumpet player Donald 'Duck' Jennings, both of whom have been active in the Austin blues scene for more than 50 years. DiverseArts director Harold McMillian leads the discussion. The chat is tied to the exhibition 'Down in Houston: Documenting a Blues Community,' also on view at the Carver through Oct. 31. The Houston hip-hop group Legendary K.O., also known as K-Otix, has dropped the single 'George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People,' built around rapper Kanye West's now-famous comment about the president and an instrumental of West's hit 'Gold Digger.' The barn-burning tune is available for free download at k-otix.com. — J.G.
After getting postponed due to fears surrounding Hurricane Rita, the final 'Fredericksburg Saturday Night: American Music in the Texas Hill Country' concert will take place Oct. 15 at the Pioneer Museum in Fredericksburg. The show was originally scheduled for Sept. 24. — J.G.
Now that Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' is turning 30, musicians from bands such as Plum, Sarah Glynn Band, Funk Shui and more perform the LP in its entirety Oct. 19 at the South Austin Ruta Maya. Projections provided by Rion King and 54 Seconds open the show. Proceeds benefit the SIMS Foundation and hurricane survivors through Cherish Our Children International.
