Pachanga organizer already looking to next year

The inaugural Pachanga Latin Music Festival, which was Saturday at Waterloo Park, is now in the books, and co-organizer Rich Garza is looking forward to next year.
"We'd like to put a little bit more focus on the kids' piece of it," Garza said. "We'd like to put the emphasis a little more on kids during the day and grown-ups at night." To this end, Garza is looking to have an in-and-out policy (you couldn't leave and come back this year).
He also wants to dial up the visual arts component. "These are all things that we wanted to do this year," Garza said. "But being a first-year event, we wanted to have the music in place and done as well as we could do it."
He's also looking to have it earlier in the year, perhaps kicking off Latino Music Month rather than closing it out. The mid-90s heat was brutal and didn't begin to abate until well after 7 p.m. "That's something we're going to hard-core consider," Garza says, adding that it will depend on venue availability and what other events are going on.
Sporting about 3,000 patrons at the peak, the Pachanga fest drew on talent that included both local (Grupo Fantasma, Maneja Beto) and regional (San Antonio's Girl in a Coma) as well as from Mexico (Nortec Collective Presents Bostich & Fussible). But don't expect Garza to talk about next year's acts tomorrow or anything.
"We haven't even done a real post-mortem yet," Garza said. "But I couldn't help myself making a wish list. We'll definitely start working on that sooner than later."
