Congress Avenue Bridge Bat-Viewing Area

The Mexican free-tailed bats live under the crevices of the Congress Avenue Bridge. The Austin American-Statesman has a grassy knoll that serves as a public viewing area.

The Austin American-Statesman is located at: 305 S. Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78704

Driving Directions: From I-35, exit West on Riverside Drive and continue about 2 miles to Congress Avenue. Take a right at the light on the corner of Riverside Avenue and Congress Avenue and look for the Texas Department of Transportation Riverside Campus sign and turn right into TxDOT driveway.

(If you've gone past the Statesman entrance and/or over the bridge, you've gone too far). Park, walk toward the bridge and enjoy the fun!
