Huskers Drive 99 Yards To Tie It In Regulation

Game Stats | Game Aftermath

Score After Regulation: UT 24, Nebraska 24 (Go on to Overtime)

Overview: So I'm up by seven with about 1:37 to play. I've punted and put Nebraska, a team not known for scoring fast, on its own 1-yard line.

As all video game players know, this scenario automatically triggers a sub-routine in any football game that says, no matter what, the team that has to travel 99 yards in 90-some seconds will score.

That's what happened to me. On the drive, Lord survived two fourth and longs -- once by completing an 8-yard pass thrown across his body into double-coverage on the opposite side of the field -- to hook up with Pilkington (double-covered, natch) from 38 yards out with nine seconds left on the clock.

The only incompletions he had the entire drive were spikes to stop the clock.

Meanwhile, Benson looked horrible, again. He had 47 yards on 13 carries, that stat padded considerably with an 18-yard scramble in the second quarter. He just hasn't been able to shed tacklers since missing three weeks with a rib injury.

Now I'm reeling after my highly-touted defense gave up two touchdowns in the last five minutes, and my offense -- despite another quality game by Chance Mock -- is mired in the Central Texas rain.

In-game adjustments: A five-man front worked wonders through most of the game, until Lord started completing every throw he made. At that point, I dropped back into zones, double-coverages and such, and he still looked infallible. He's a little susceptible to the blitz (surprising for a mobile guy), but ... again ... he's been getting the job done.

Offensively, I even ran an entire series out of the "no back" formation and was largely successful, although the Huskers sniffed it out and shut it down the second time I tried it. I simply can't run the ball anymore.

Key plays: Up until the last TD, it was looking like Mock's second touchdown pass to B.J. Johnson -- thrown from the Nebraska 9 from a shotgun formation, if that tells you anything about my confidence in my running game -- was the game-breaker.

Turns out, it wasn't. Not even close.

On to Overtime.
