Other DS Reviews Feel the Magic Madden 2005 Metroid Demo Spider-Man 2 Super-Mario 64 The Urbz Nintendo DS Index |
Surrounded by beautifully rendered environs, the tracks are small and relatively uneventful. There is traffic to deal with, but the game is so forgiving it hardly matters. Small time penalties are all that you incur for wrecks that would have killed you and everyone in the vicinity five times over.
You can play in a couple of other modes: a time trial, a “police chase” mode, and a competition career game. The police chase was my favorite, racing through the streets to catch up with target cars, you have to “lock on” to them with your system for several seconds. High-speed tag, basically.
The controls are boring and basic. The second screen only shows a map of your track, which is useful in police chase mode, and is always handy for figuring out when you are coming to a long straight stretch (best time to hit the nitrous for a turbo boost).
For those who like realistic driving games, stay far, far away from this one. If you just want to play around at the Rio airport in a suped-up new VW beetle or Hum-Vee, this is your game.
