WEATHER

It's not always sweltering in Central Texas. Honest

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Central Texans often tell visitors not enjoying the weather to wait a day, because it will probably change. However, KVUE Chief Meteorologist Mark Murray said Central Texas weather does stick to a few seasonal patterns. High summer temperatures tend to begin around Memorial Day, and the heat and humidity last through Labor Day. October and November provide a small amount of fall-like weather as the humidity drops.

Central Texas winters are mild but can occasionally bring ice storms and snow flurries. By March, temperatures begin to rise and spring brings wildflowers to the area. May is the peak of the rain and severe weather season, bringing thunderstorms and hail to Central Texas. Tornadoes are rare in Austin, which is south of tornado alley, but a couple of small, short-lived tornadoes might be found around the area each year.
