An Austin-based casting agency is looking for Muslim women in the area to audition for a new show.
The creative team behind Norwegian drama, “SKAM,” is calling Muslim women aged 17 to 19 to audition for a lead role in the American remake. The TV show, which has become internationally praised and received several awards and nominations, follows the daily lives and struggles of a group of teenagers.
It will be filmed for Facebook’s new TV-platform, Facebook Watch, and filmed in Austin this spring. It will be produced by the original Norwegian creators, an all-female team, and XIX entertainment, the producers of “American Idol.”
Every season, the show switches its focus to another main character and point of view within the group of friends. One of the main characters in the Norwegian “SKAM” is Sana, the Muslim girl and the main character of season four.
Throughout the season, she struggles with embodying two separate cultures and staying true to her religion while keeping up with her non-religious friends.
The show will be filmed on a schedule that will have minimal intrusion on students’ school and school commitments, according to the casting agency. Prior acting experience is not required and actors will be paid professionally.
Interested applicants can send their name, phone, email, birth date, current city of residence and a photo to email@example.com.
