Beer, cake and music a sweet Sunday in Austin. Throw in a little philanthropy and it's even better.

North by Northwest Restaurant and Brewery is celebrating 13 years in business with a party that has another purpose, too. Donations will be taken for Blue Dog Rescue, an Austin nonprofit run by volunteers that finds homes for dogs that need them. They're suggesting $2 at the door, but you can give more, of course.

The restaurant plans to tap an anniversary cask of Green Menace IPA as well as offer some special seasonal beers such as Bohemian Pilsner, Red Zeppelin, Belgian Saison, Summer Ale and Belgian Wit.

About that cake — there will be one, birthday style, as well as other kid-friendly activities including a bounce house. Music will be by singer-songwriter Christine Cochran at 6 p.m. Swing band the Lucky Strikes headline at 7:30 p.m. The whole shindig goes from 6 to 10 p.m. today, and NXNW is at 10010 Capital of Texas Highway N.
