Richard Thompson at SXSW
10 p.m. Thursday at Antone’s and 11 p.m. Friday at the Parish.
More from the U.K.
Declan O’Rourke (Dublin, Ireland). Is there a law that there always needs to be a Next Great Irish Singer-Songwriter Hope? Is it still Damian Rice? If not, is it this fellow who has had his music covered by everyone from Josh Groban to Paul Weller? Sure. (8 p.m. Friday 18th Floor at Hilton Garden Inn)
Tango in the Attic (Scotland). Scottish rockers are that rarest of SXSW birds, yet exceptionally old school about the trip: they are a band actively looking for a label to put out their next album. (8 p.m. March 13 at Latitude 30)
Andy Stott (Cambridge, England). Increasingly legendary techno producer Stott will be here for both SXSW and Chaos in Tejas, so Austinites get a few bites at the proverbial apple. (9:45 p.m. Wednesday at Elysium)
Alt-J (Manchester, England). Not sure the hype could be much louder for these folks, whose faintly excellent 2012 album “An Awesome Wave” picked up the Mercury Prize in their native land. (12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stubb’s; 11:10 p.m. Thursday at the Belmont)
Nik Turner (London, England). Yes, psychedelic rock nerds, THAT Nik Turner, the Hawkwind co-founder, who is here to play that band’s classic album “Space Ritual.” (12:30 a.m. Friday at Rebels Honky Tonk)
Ash (Downpatrick, UK-N. Ireland). Please join me in a rousing chorus of “Whoa, those guys are still around?” Ash showed up during the Britpop boom, rockers whose zippy tunes seemed to have more to do with grunge and Green Day than Oasis. (12 a.m. Wednesday at Buffalo Billiards)
