As the networks’ midseason premieres roll on, a load of cable shows’ new seasons begin. In midst of all the hellos, TV’s best science fiction show says goodbye. Here’s what to watch and what to avoid on television this week.

Monday: “Continuum” 7 p.m., Syfy: Terrorists from the future (futerrorists?) travel back to 2012 but, oops … they brought a future cop back with them.

“The Carrie Diaries” 7 p.m., CW: Let’s hope the premiere of this new series — a prequel to “Sex and the City” — means the endless promos will stop and Adam Ant can climb back into his mound.

“Being Human” 8 p.m., Syfy: Season 3 begins with Sally trapped in limbo. Hey — just tell ‘em to raise the stick.

“Lost Girl” 9 p.m., Syfy: Season 3 kicks off tonight.

Tuesday: “Bad Girls Club” 7 p.m., Oxygen: New season, new girls, new city — Atlanta.

“Pioneers of Television” 7 p.m., PBS: The third-season premiere looks at female comics and sitcom stars.

“Face Off” 8 p.m., Syfy: 14 special effects competitors square off, creating goblins in the reality series’ Season 4 premiere.

“Emily Owens, M.D.” 8 p.m., CW: Sorry, Mamie. The network begins to burn off the canceled drama’s remaining episodes.

Wednesday: “American Idol” 7 p.m., Fox: Season 12 kicks off with auditions before Randy Jackson and new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

“Kroll Show” 9:30 p.m., Comedy Central: “The League’s” Nick Kroll debuts his new sketch comedy show.

Thursday: “Anger Management” 8 p.m., FX: Charlie Sheen messes up a shower in the Season 2 premiere. Luckily, it’s a baby shower because, you know, there are things you can’t un-see.

“Archer” 9 p.m., FX: The titular agent hopes a spa visit will restore his memory as the fourth season begins.

“King of the Nerds” 9 p.m., TBS: Ladies and gentlemen … start your pocket protectors! I’m not sure why anybody would want to win this crown, but eleven contestants try.

“Legit” 9:30 p.m., FX: Jim Jeffries portrays a politically incorrect standup comic working on his act and his life in this new comedy.

“Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell” 10 p.m., FX: The politically incorrect standup comic begins his show’s sophomore season.

Friday: “Fringe” 7 p.m., Fox: The adventures of Walter and the gang wind up tonight (in our universe, anyway) with back-to-back episodes.

“Real Time with Bill Maher” 9 p.m., HBO: A new season of talking head gabfest-ing begins.

Saturday: “Ripper Street” 8 p.m., BBC America: If I learned on thing from this cop drama set in 1889 London, it’s this: If you live on Ripper Street, you’re just asking for it.

Sunday: “NFL Football” 5:30 p.m., CBS: The AFC’s top two battle it out to determine who heads to the Super Bowl.
