Weather in Central Texas follows a few patterns, though it's markedly unpredictable from one day to the next.

Central Texans endure four months when average highs are in the 90s, with summerlike weather kicking off around Memorial Day and the heat and humidity sticking around through Labor Day.

Early in the summer, sudden showers sometimes cool things down but bring high humidity. The scorching heat of the late summer gives way to a short fall in October and November, tempting Central Texans to the outdoors.

Mild winters are punctuated by ice storms, snow flurries and freezes. By early March, temperatures begin to rise and wildflowers start to bloom as spring approaches.

May, the peak of the rainy season, brings severe weather — thunderstorms, hail and occasional small tornadoes.
