KISS-FM is absolutely unstoppable, folks.

For what seems like the zillionth time, the latest Arbitron ratings show Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's 96.7 KHFI-FM — those are the station's real call letters — is No. 1 in Central Texas. In fact, the home of Top 40 acts such as Maroon 5, Flo Rida, Gotye, Katy Perry and Carly Rae Jepsen had nearly twice as many listeners as runner-up 103.5 KBPA-FM.

Pretty darn impressive.

Two of KHFI's Clear Channel siblings also made the top 10: contemporary country station 100.7 KASE-FM (No. 3) and hip-hop-friendly 102.3 KPEZ-FM (No. 4).

The rest of the list features the usual suspects, albeit in a slightly different order.

Texas Monthly, KUT team up

Our continued drought is the focus of a new hourlong special produced by 90.5 KUT-FM.

The news team at the city's NPR affiliate worked on the project with its recently founded StateImpact Texas unit, as well as Texas Monthly, which has a July cover story titled, "Life by the Drop: Drought, Water and the Future of Texas."

"We're coming off the worst single-year drought in Texas history," said KUT news director Emily Donahue. "While parts of the state had rains this past winter, other areas continue to experience drought, and there's still a long-term forecast of real water scarcity."

Jake Silverstein, the magazine's editor, serves as host.

"Water is one of the three or four most important issues facing Texas," Silverstein said. "It always has been. We knew we wanted to go big on this topic and working with KUT and StateImpact Texas was a natural way to do that."

The locally based "Bobby Bones Show" is now heard in St. Louis. Station 107.7 KSLZ-FM recently picked up Bones' morning program, which also airs in a number of other cities coast to coast. The show originates from Austin's 96.7 KHFI-FM. ... Congratulations are in order yet again for 90.5 KUT-FM, which has snagged another award. This time around, the station took home the bronze at the 2012 New York Festivals Radio Program and Promotion Awards for "West Texas, 1941: The Story of Guy Clark," a "Texas Music Matters" documentary focusing on the well-known singer/songwriter that was put together by David Brown and Haley Howle. ...
