The Austin City Limits Music Festival put an end to months of speculation today in announcing Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, the Black Keys, Jack White, Florence + The Machine and the Avett Brothers as its headlining acts. French pop act M83, Metric, Iggy and the Stooges and the Shins are among the other acts that will perform at Zilker Park from Oct. 12-14.

The announcement comes four days after the festival began revealing some of the names on the lineup via a series of scratch tickets released at various businesses throughout town.

"With ACL, we try to put every style of music we can on the bill," says Charles Attal of festival organizer C3 Presents. "We have jazz, blues, rock, electronic country, because I think that's what Austin dictates. We try to keep it as eclectic as possible."

Attals adds that though the festival strives to appeal to a large number of music fans, the lineup is affected by tour schedules.

"All of these bands happened to be working; we got lucky," he says.

Many of the names on the lineup, including retro-garage rockers the Alabama Shakes, ex-White Stripe Jack White, Austin guitar slinger Gary Clark Jr. and California pop rock band Delta Spirit, were among the biggest draws during this year's SXSW Festival.

Others, including blues duo the Black Keys and progressive bluegrass group Punch Brothers, were in town recently for high-profile concerts of their own.

One of the biggest names on this year's bill is Neil Young and Crazy Horse, who release a new album, "Americana," on June 5. Young last performed in Austin at Bass Concert Hall during his 2010 solo tour.

Several of this year's headliners are also headlining Chicago's Lollapalooza festival, which is also produced by Austin-based C3 Presents. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Keys, Jack White and Florence + the Machine, as well as several down-bill acts, will perform at both festivals.

After last year's headlining spot by rapper Kanye West, it was unclear how or if the festival would follow with another high-profile hip-hop act. That would be Philadelphia band the Roots, though they don't have a headlining slot.

A third round of three-day passes went on sale for festival email list subscribers today at a cost of $200, an increase from last year's $185 price tag.

Two previous rounds of "early-bird" tickets, one at $50 and another at $185, sold out immediately. Those prices still remain among the cheapest of the large festivals, including Lollapalooza and Coachella.
