Two weeks ago guest Buzzmeter expert Jason Cohen made a point of saying that at a big event like the Austin City Limits Music Festival worthwhile young bands often get stuck playing prohibitively early in the day, before the majority of the crowd enters the gates. This got us thinking about bands this year that would be worth heading to Zilker Park for a little early.

Using the scheduler data and looking at bands slated to start before 2 p.m. each day, we’ve put together an “Early Bird” top 10, a handful of which would probably have more fans and crack our overall top 25 if they had a time slot with a little less daylight. We’ll get to those after a few quick hits from the leaderboard.

• No chart movement this week for 2012 Buzzmeter mover Gotye, but he took a big bite out of Tegan and Sara’s lead – down to less than 250 “adds” — and will probably jump them by next week.

• The Lumineers have been creeping up our chart a little more slowly and quietly than Gotye has, but it’s time to crown the Denver roots band officially as one of this year’s buzz bands.

• Austin blues sensation Gary Clark Jr. makes his first climb in these rankings, perhaps the first sign of momentum for his upcoming Warner Bros. release “Blak And Blu,” which drops soon after the festival, on Oct. 23.

Kimbra – 5,259 – 12:15 p.m. Oct. 14, Bud Light Stage. The female foil in Gotye’s smash hit single, and a serious talent in her own right.

Bombay Bicycle Club – 3,362 – 1:15 p.m. Oct. 13, Barton Springs Stage. Somber Londoners with restrained hooks, layered vocals and bright instrumentation.

The Wombats – 3,163 – 11:45 a.m. Oct. 12, Honda Stage. Liverpool rockers taking up after the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and Kaiser Chiefs.

Stars – 3,012 – 1:15 p.m. Oct. 14, Barton Springs Stage. Toronto offshoot of Broken Social Scene shows expected firm grasp on atmospheric indie rock.

First Aid Kit – 2,738 - 1:15 p.m. Oct. 12, Honda Stage. Sisters from Sweden well versed in the best bits of America’s retro Laurel Canyon folk sound.

Dev – 2,205 – 12:30 p.m. Oct. 13, AMD Stage. Bouncing club pop (Robyn is an obvious influence) will be a worthwhile gamble just past high noon.

Los Campesinos! – 2,173 – 12:30 p.m. Oct. 12, Bud Light Stage. Welsh. Channel sound of Art Brut, and The Jam. Are having 10 times as much fun as you at all times.

Civil Twilight – 2,099 – 12:30 p.m. Oct. 13, Bud Light Stage. British-styled rockers from South Africa trade in big U2- and Coldplay-styled anthems.

Quiet Company – 1,669 – 11:15 a.m. Oct. 13, Austin Ventures Stage. Can-do Austin pop rockers taking confessional tunes to its biggest stage yet.

Asleep At The Wheel – 1,669 – 12:30 a.m. Oct. 12, AMD Stage. Feels weird calling them a buzz band since they kick the fest off every year. Still, chug some Friday morning coffee and pay respect.
