A “locals-only SXSW” is how Transmission Entertainment co-founder Graham Williams has described Free Week, the now annual mini-festival that he started nine years ago while booking shows at Emo’s. This year, it expands to nearly two weeks, with sets from local bands including rock/soul group Bobby Jealousy, the Best (which includes members of OBN IIIs, the Flesh Lights and Bad Lovers), a rap showcase with Austin-based group League of Extraordinary Gz, and singer-songwriter David Dondero.

And while Transmission books Free Week shows at Mohawk, Red 7, Holy Mountain and Beerland, other clubs around town get in on the action as well (including some that might not have posted schedules when this was written). Here are some Free Week events for the next seven days:

Thursday

The Dead Space at Beerland. One of three bands counting Quin Galavis as a member, who, along with Garrett Hadden and Jenny Arthur, make bleak post-punk with a thumping rhythm section, screeching guitar work and vocals that can claw the music out of the gloom. With Foreign Mothers, Horse + Donkey, Ghetto Ghouls and Feral Future. 711 Red River St. beerlandaustin.com.

Also playing: Mr. Lewis and the Funeral 5, Mandible, Starlings TN, Chris Crofton (inside), and Three’s Aways, Adam and the Bullshark and Animal Train (outside) at Red 7; 10YR, Les Rav, Black Books, End Wave, the Harms (inside), and Whalers and Guns of Navarone (outside) at Mohawk; Darren Hoff & the Hard Times, Mayeux and Broussard, These Mad Dogs of Glory, Jack Wilson at Antone’s; Hydra Melody, Megafauna, O Conqueror, the Baker Family, Featherface at Holy Mountain; the Train Wrecks, Korkus, Gabe Hascall (outside), and Electric Attitude, Dead Peasants, Fever Bones and Voluptuous Neighbors (inside) at Club Deville; Tallhart and Driver Friendly at Stubb’s.
