Open: Winflo Osteria, a family-run Italian restaurant inside an 1922 bungalow at 1315 W. Sixth St. from brother-and-sister team Michael and Megan Dickson. Chef John Pennington is in charge of the small but thoughtful menu of from-scratch pastas, such as gnocchi, fettuccine and cavatelli, pizzas, antipasti, salads, soups, and traditional Italian main dishes, including porchetta and pesce con puttanesca. The Dicksons offer an all-Italian wine menu, as well as a plentiful cocktail menu. 582-1027, winfloosteria.com.

Open: Sambets Cajun Roadside Cafe. The Sambets on Spicewood Springs Road was destroyed in a Thanksgiving Day fire in 2011, but co-owner Doug Slocombe has reopened his popular Cajun eatery in a food trailer at 4801 Burnet Road. Slocombe says that he’s serving several kinds of gumbo, po’ boys and etouffee, as well as red beans and rice and muffaletta. No website just yet, but the phone number is 258-6410. Open for lunch and dinner.

Open: Vom Fass, a specialty store at 3663 Bee Cave Road in Westlake specializing in olive oil, vinegar, wine and spirits. This is the seventh U.S. location of the gourmet store that first opened in 1994 in Germany. “The name literally means ‘from the cask’ or ‘from the barrel’ in German, so everything is in bulk,” says owner Chris Vetromile. You can try the olive oils, vinegars and even wines and liquor, including whiskey and rum, and then buy them by the bottle, which come in various sizes and styles. 637-9545, vomfassaustin.com.

Open: Pflugerville Pfood Ranch, a food trailer park at 2205 W. Pecan St. that is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Current trucks include Hall of Flame BBQ, Greengo’s Home Cooking and Hey Cupcake. 619-5143, facebook.com/PflugervillePfoodRanch.

Open: Gloria’s, the second Austin location of the upscale Latin restaurant at 300 W. Sixth St. 236-1795, gloriasrestaurants.com.

Closing today: Cannoli Joe’s, the locally owned Italian restaurant in Sunset Valley.

Moving: The Mighty Cone, the SoCo trailer from the culinary team at Hudson’s on the Bend, which turned the popularity of the chicken cone, a top seller at the Austin City Limits Music Festival, into a year-round venture. The trailer is moving to the Rio Rancho Eatery, 2512 Rio Grande St., sometime in the next week or so. Taking its primer corner space at the trailer park at 1603 S. Congress Ave. will be the upscale grilled cheese eatery Burro Cheese, which will be housed in a storage unit. mightycone.com.

UPCOMING FOOD & WINE EVENTS

Supper Friends, the dinner series at the Swoop House, 3012 Gonzales St., from 2 Dine 4 Catering, has a few interesting meals coming up in the next week. On Friday, chef Eric Nelson Brown will prepare a four-course “locavore love” dinner that showcases local meat and produce from farms including Windy Hill ($65, plus tax and gratuity), and on Tuesday, he’ll team with fellow 2 Dine 4 chef Leanne Valenti for a gluten-free, dairy-free dinner ($48) featuring produce from Johnson’s Backyard Garden. (This second Tuesday supper is the first of what will become a monthly event with Johnson’s, Valenti says.) On Feb. 8, Josh Venne, sous chef at Perla’s who moonlights for 2 Dine 4 team, will serve a six-course Spanish dinner ($60). All the dinners start at 7 p.m. and are BYOB. Faraday’s Kitchen Store, 1501 RM 620 North in Lakeway, has a few out-of-the-ordinary classes coming up in February, including a dehydrator class with chef Alicia Ojeda at 6 p.m. on Wednesday ($59) and a class with chef Katy Parker on Feb. 16 on how to train your taste buds to detect and identify different flavors found in food ($49).
