Opening Sunday: Sway, the long-awaited Thai restaurant from the La Condesa team, which includes owners Jesse Herman and Delfo Trombetta, chef Rene Ortiz and pastry chef Laura Sawicki, at 1417 S. First St. Inspired by the modern Thai food that both Herman and Ortiz enjoyed while living in Australia, the restaurant will serve dishes including black vinegar chicken, tamarind-glazed beef, a char-grilled cornish hen served with chili jam, rose apple stir fry, pad kwetio and an appetizer called prawn miange with Gulf shrimp coated in toasted coconut. The restaurant features indoor and outdoor seating, an open kitchen and striking square mahogany tables so heavy and large (they can accomodate between 12 and 16 people each) that they had to be built inside the space. Closed: Collie’s Burgers, a food trailer that specialized in burgers and hand-cut fries.

Closed: JAX Neighborhood Cafe, the music venue and restaurant at 2828 Rio Grande. Art Blondin, formerly of Artz Rib House, had been serving his popular barbecue there after his South Lamar Boulevard restaurant closed earlier this year.

Closed: Ming’s Cafe, the UT-area Chinese restaurant at 2604 Guadalupe St.

• What’s the difference between a supper club and a pop-up restaurant? It’s hard to tell with a project like glass2plate, a new venture from Matthew Taylor and Dirk Miller, who met while working as sous chef and sommelier, respectively, at Wink. In November, they hosted a dinner at Hausbar Farm in East Austin and a midnight brunch at Aviary, the home decor shop and wine bar on South Lamar Boulevard. Their next event is on Saturday at Boggy Creek Farm, 3414 Lyons Road, where they’ll serve a six-course dinner featuring dishes including an eggdrop soup made with Hausbar chickens, roasted quail with winter vegetables and longhorn beef kibbeh. In addition to public events and classes, including another dinner on Dec. 13 with the Noble Pig chefs, Taylor and Miller are available for private parties and catering.
• From 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, the East Austin brewery Hops & Grains, 507 Calles, is hosting a panel discussion on the history and cultural impact of fermentation. Panelists include Hops & Grains founder Josh Hare, Ben Runkle of Salt & Time Butcher Shop & Salumeria, Pinthouse Pizza head brewer Joe Mohrfeld and Simon Perez, owner of Baked In Austin.
