Chef changes: Lawrence Kocurek, the former Roy’s chef and co-owner of Kocurek Family Charcuterie, has left the Hyatt Lost Pines to take the chef de cuisine job at Trace. Jaime Chozet has left Perla’s to become the corporate executive chef for Iron Cactus, which has five locations in Texas. He’ll be based out of the Iron Cactus at the Hill Country Galleria. Martine Pèlegrin, who was in charge of the kitchen at the Whip In, the convenience store turned restaurant turned wine bar and brewery, has left to spearhead the culinary operations at Quickie-Pickie, a neighborhood grocery at 1208 E. 11th St. with “beer and wine by the glass, a revolving bar menu of small plates and a take-away kitchen.” Quickie-Pickie is expected to open in four to six weeks.

Closed: Nuevo Leon, the longtime East Austin restaurant closed over the weekend after more than 30 years in operation. Owner Rachel Davila sold the property but did not announce what the buyers plan to do with the space.

On March 23, Farmhouse Delivery is hosting a Fais Do-Do gumbo cook-off from noon to 4 p.m. at Rain Lily Farm, 914 Shady Lane. The event, which includes live music from the Gulf Coast Playboys, is free, but tasting tickets cost $15. If you want to compete, the cost is $35. Proceeds from the event go to Urban Roots.
