Just do it.
While blind dates frequently get a bad rap, Fox 7 newscaster Keri Bellacosa says she’s a big believer.
After all, if she’d said “no,” the “Good Day Austin” anchor would never have met her husband, Greg.
“You never know,” she told me. “I didn’t ask for it, but it was one of the biggest moments of my life.”
She didn’t always think that way, though. Bellacosa said friends Emily and Joe Price get all the credit for changing her mind.
“She told me, ‘I know someone you should meet,’ ” the newscaster said. “I’d heard that a million times.”
Bellacosa reluctantly agreed but says she didn’t take things very seriously.
“I didn’t think twice about it,” she said. “I didn’t dress up or anything.”
That was in November 2007. She married Greg in March 2012 and, now, they’re living happily ever after. Awww.
Among the guests at their Austin wedding: University of Texas mascot Bevo. Both attended UT.
“UT’s a big part of our lives,” she said. “When we met, Greg told me he went to all the UT games, even some away from home. My response was, ‘Can I go?’ — and that was the winning answer.”
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Bellacosa says blind dates are the way to go if you’re looking for love. Yes, really.
“Friends are the best reference,” she said. “The matchmaker knows there’s some common tie.”
So go for it. And, if — no, when — things work out, be sure to send Bellacosa an invite to your wedding.
Bravo plans SXSW visit
He’s cute. He’s funny. And he’s coming to Austin next month for South by Southwest.
Who is this mystery man? It’s Andy Cohen, host of Bravo network’s “Watch What Happens Live.”
He’ll host five episodes of the hit talk show live from Austin starting March 10, according to Bravo, “rubbing elbows with the who’s who of SXSW.”
“I fell in love with SXSW and Austin while on a panel last year,” Cohen said in the network’s announcement. “This festival is the perfect match for our highly interactive show, and I can’t wait to welcome Bravo-lebrities, stars and Texas legends to our Austin clubhouse.”
“Watch What Happens Live” airs at 10 p.m. every Sunday through Thursday on Bravo, Time Warner Cable channels 62 and 260.
Local firm on ‘Shark Tank’
It’s time for Austin to get real – again.
Locally based How Do You Roll? is front and center next week on an episode of ABC’s hit reality show “Shark Tank.”
Brothers Yuen and Peter Yung co-founded the sushi restaurant, which now has 12 locations across the U.S. On the show, they make a sales pitch to a team of shrewd businessmen — known as “sharks” — hoping to land some cash to continue the company’s growth.
“It’s always exciting getting to talk with smart business people,” Yuen Yung said via email. “Of course, I was a little nervous pitching to the sharks — they’re sharks for a reason.”
How successful are they? We’ll have to wait and see. The show is set to air Friday at 8 p.m. on KVUE Channel 24.
