Washington García and the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Now a professor at Texas State University, Ecudorean-born pianist Washington García will perform Tchaikovsky’s dramatic, sweeping Piano Concerto No. 1. “Soundspace: Space and Symmetry.” Prepare to be amazed. The last time Steven Parker, composer-in-residence at the Blanton Museum, staged a sprawling performance in the University of Texas art museum, more than 400 people turned out. Now, Parker gets big again with the Texas premiere of ‘Orbits,’ a work by visionary spatial composer Henry Brant featuring 80 trombones, a soprano and organ, all assembled in the museum’s soaring two-story atrium. And if that weren’t enough, also included on the program is a theatrical work by composer Karlheinz Stockhausen that incorporates physical movement and some interactive works for guitar and theremin. 2 p.m. Sunday.
