Now that the blast furnace of summer has begun to abate, the best time you can have on a downtown rooftop returns with the AMOA-Arthouse's Rooftop Architecture Film Series.
  Screened on the Jones Center roof deck against the backdrop of Austin's downtown skyline, the Wednesday series of movies features sharp documentaries exploring architecture and the built environment.
  Here's the drill: Tickets are $10 (free if you're a museum member). Seating is first to come, first to grab it. Royal Blue Grocery will be selling snacks and spirits on site.

  The fall schedule:
  ■ "Philip Johnson: Diary of an Eccentric Architect." 8 p.m. today. Directed by Barbara Wolf, the 1996 film follows the inimitable modernist at work in his famous "Glass House" in New Canaan, Conn.
  ■ "The Museum on the Mountain." 7 p.m. Oct. 17. Peter Rosen's 1998 documentary chronicles I.M. Pei's quest to overcome myriad logistical challenges to build Japan's majestic, mountaintop Miho Museum in Kyoto.
  ■ "Diller Scofidio + Renfro: Reimagining Lincoln Center and the High Line." 7 p.m. Nov. 14. The Texas premiere of 2012 film directed by Muffie Dunn and Tom Piper. Diller Scofidio + Renfro took on two of the most high-profile projects in New York City: Lincoln Center and the High Line. Both won the firm critical and popular acclaim. The documentary reveals the complex civil planning and politicking necessary to resculpt public space.
