XL on ACL: Early Hours of ACL Festival Draw 4,500 Music Fans American-Statesman Staff Sept. 19, 2003 The second annual Austin City Limits Music Festival got off to a good start Friday morning, drawing 4,500 people within a few hours of opening the gates at 11 a.m. People continued to arrive in a steady stream into the afternoon, pouring out of chartered Capital Metro buses. Event organizers urged the public to stay away from the congested Barton Springs Road, even though it is still open to through traffic. Barton Springs Road will close at Robert E. Lee Road and near MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1) at 6 p.m. People who plan to buy tickets at the gate will have to walk or take one of 37 Capital Metro buses to the festival grounds at Zilker Park. Capital Metro charter buses are picking up people at Waterloo Park at 14th and Trinity streets, and the wait has been about five minutes, organizers said. The ride is free. | ||||
