Make like Michael Phelps, although Ryan Lochte and his grill might be more appropriate for this crowd, at Sunday's Fun Fun Fun Aqua Olympics. See the latest A-List photos from this event.
One of the events is a tug-of-war across the lake, an epic South Austin vs. North Austin battle led by Mayor Lee Leffingwell on the South and City Council member Mike Martinez for the North. You can address Leffingwell as Mayor MayNot on Sunday; his team will include a contingent of Texas Rollergirls and that's his derby name, according to organizers.
The folks behind the three-day Fun Fun Fun Fest are throwing this free event both for fun, as a way to honor the late lamented Aqua Fest, and to offer a chance for people to win tickets, including their version of VIP passes, to the Nov. 2-4 music fest at Auditorium Shores.
Good balance will be handy, but a free-spirited attitude and clothes that you don't mind getting wet also will serve you well in the competitions. And those competitive events also include paddleboard jousting, paddleboard freestyle, paddleboard high-kick and a "Revenge of the Nerds" belching contest.
Spectators can partake of water slides and games, a giant slip ‘n' slide race, watching pro skateboarders on a half pipe and music from Orthy and Learning Secrets DJs. There will be food from Frank, beer and a taco cannon. The Austin Facial Hair Club will be there, too. It's free to attend. The opening ceremony and registration begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 19, followed by the water events from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and general fun after that.
