PHOTOS: Independence Brewing is enticing us to a doggone good cause with beer

Ready to open your wallet for a good cause and some beer?

These photos alone might inspire you to help out with Independence Brewing’s summer philanthropy mission, but the brewery is also banking on the fact that many Texans are going to want two of its most popular beers, Redbud and its salt-tinged sibling, Cucumber RedBud, which is soon making its summer return.

A portion of the net proceeds generated from every sale of these beers will go toward Service Dogs Inc., a nonprofit that provides trained service and hearing dogs to people with disabilities, improving their quality of life. The campaign, which hopes to raise up to $45,000, runs through Labor Day. ($45,000 is the total cost it takes for Service Dogs Inc. to prepare a dog for serving a disabled person.)

“For some people with disabilities, a service dog is all they need to keep living on their own. If we can help someone keep their independence, we’re living up to our name,” Cartwright said in a press release.

Service dogs are trained to be well-behaved off-leash and on and respond to basic commands, but most importantly, they are able to perform tasks that mitigate their owner’s disability.

The dogs in these photos — scroll down to see more — were snapped by the incredibly talented fur-baby photographer Zilker Bark. They seem probably more poised than most of the canines that romp along the shores of Austin’s beloved off-leash dog park, Redbud Isle, from which the beer gets its name.

Independence’s Redbud and Cucumber Redbud are both Berliner Weisse-style ales, meaning that they’re nicely tart, crisp and effervescent, the perfect liquid antidote to summer. Cucumber Redbud in particular — which is “like a spa day for your tongue,” according to Draft Magazine — is making waves among craft beer lovers. It’ll only be here for summer sipping, however, so don’t delay in picking up a six-pack.
