So...you're driving through Hyde Park and are suddenly seized with one obsessive thought: coffee. No problem here, because now you're in Quackenbush country. Quack's 43rd St. Bakery, the reincarnation of Quackenbush's on the drag, should take care of your obsession quite nicely. Although you may experience parking problems, your perseverance will pay off.

Quack's 43rd St. Bakery, the reincarnation of Quackenbush's on the drag, should take care of your obsession quite nicely. Daydreaming of iced latte running coldly down my throat, I ordered a double ($2.99) while my java buddy ordered a double espresso ($1.99). The wait was brief, but long enough for me to get an eyeful of the tempting desserts, breads, and pastries on display. In addition to the many java choices, the menu also boasted a nice variety of teas, soups and sandwiches, and there was a refrigerator full of organic juices.

We chose indoor seating as it was unseasonably warm outside and sat enjoying our coffees. While quaffing, we observed the colorful artwork and paintings hanging on the walls and took in the bohemian ambience, which was mainly made up of college students.

We found that our selections really hit the spot and vowed to visit again if we were in the neighborhood.

The doors at Quack's open at 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. They close at 11:00 p.m.
