Austin Beerworks is normally all about the mystical unicorn, but this week, the brewery is highlighting the very real tiger as part of a new beer release.
The North Austin brewery has once again teamed up with downtown beer bar Easy Tiger to make Montecore, a märzen-style brew released for Oktoberfest each year. This time around, the beer is getting an early debut at a rather unusual place: in front of the tiger enclosure at the Austin Zoo.
Each $50 general admission ticket includes the maroon cans of this year's Montecore, which is being officially released next week at Easy Tiger’s Oktoberfest celebration. Plus, you can snack on Easy Tiger’s pretzels, beer cheese, mustard, Chex mix and beef jerky while chatting with the zookeepers about the big cats in the nearby enclosure.
One of the zookeepers will give a special “tiger talk” at 12:30 p.m.
VIP tickets are also available and will get you everything from the general admission package, as well as a Montecore T-shirt and a one-year membership to the Austin Zoo. A portion of the proceeds will help to sponsor two big cats by keeping them fed for a year.
The remaining proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to the Austin Zoo, a nonprofit rescue zoo and animal sanctuary that “assists animals in need through rescue, rehabilitation and education,” according to the zoo’s mission statement.
The Montecore beer release will be at the Austin Zoo, 10808 Rawhide Trl., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8. For more information, visit the Facebook event page.
