EVENT: What’s the best Texas beer for floating the river? Austin bar wants to know

5:59 p.m Thursday, July 6, 2017 Things to Do
Which Texas beer will win the Crowler Cup title, named after Cuvee Coffee Bar's valiantly fought-for crowler system? Find out at the competition on July 13.

We’ve all got one: a beer that has become our de facto companion during summer trips floating the San Marcos River, the Guadalupe River, whichever body of water in Central Texas literally floats our boat. Now, one Austin bar, Cuvee Coffee on East Sixth Street, wants to know the answer to an essential question: Which Texas beer is the absolute very best for float trips?
Lest we get too bogged down by suggestions, Cuvee has narrowed the competition — in this year’s summer Crowler Cup, held from 6 to 11 p.m. July 13 — down to nine mostly local craft beers. Cast your vote for the winner by ordering the one you think best suits a day on the river.

But that’s not all. This edition of the Crowler Cup (so named after the vessel that was once the source of ire between the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and pretty much every drinker in Texas who wanted to take home beer in a crowler) will offer a variety of goodies to one lucky winner. Potential winners need only purchase a beer to enter. Prizes include vouchers to float the San Marcos river as well as Cuvee Coffee Bar merch.

The participating river-friendly beers? We’ve got some tough choices on our hands.

There will also be live music by the Mismatch and eats provided by Mykonos Waffle. For more information, visit facebook.com/CuveeCoffeeBar.
