AA-S Best Bet - The Slits:
Before there were female rockers Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders and Deborah Harry of Blondie, there was the sound of the highly influential and trailblazing punk rockers the Slits. Formed in London in 1976 by the all-female members Ari Up (Arianna Forster), Viv Albertine, Palmolive (Paloma Romera) and Tessa Pollitt, the Slits traded in previous notions of 'girl groups' for the likes of a rude, crude and brash debut album 'Cut.' In the early '80s, with the release of their sophomore effort 'Return of the Giant Slits,' the group began experimenting with an avant-garde sound and abandoned much of their previous noise. By the late '80s, the Slits disbanded to work on individual projects, though Forster and Pollitt reformed the band with new members for a world tour in 2006.
