Profile

AA-S Best Bet: To celebrate the announcement of the Austin Film Society's 2007 Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund review panel — which includes producer and director Sarah Price, underground Chicago filmmaker James Fotopoulos and Rachel Rosen, director of programming for Film Independent and the Los Angeles Film Festival — the AFS presents a special screening of Fotopoulos' feature "Back Against the Wall" this evening. This dark, three-part drama follows a lingerie model into the depths of despair.

Fotopoulos' work has been screened at venues around the world, including the Andy Warhol Museum, the New York Underground Film Festival and the Sundance Channel.
— Lauren Clonts

From the promoter:
In this "Lynch-like vision of the rotting underbelly of Middle America" (Stephen Holden, The New York Times), the downfall of a lingerie model is portrayed against the depressing, menacing milieus of the men she caters to, including an angry, jealous, middle-aged failure and his strange, no-necked friend. James Fotopoulos presents this dark, sinister story as a three-part feature in the unnerving, highly original style that has made him a major figure of the underground cinema.

Director James Fotopoulos will be on-hand to introduce the film and answer questions after the screening. James is in Austin serving as one of the panel members of the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund, AFS's 11-year-old grant program for Texas filmmakers.
