XL Recommended - 'I Am Not Tartuffe': Think all the fun is going on down at SXSW? The performers of Yellow Tape Construction Co. don't think so. From the spectacle lovers who brought you 'I Love My Dead Gay Son: The Musical!' comes 'I Am Not Tartuffe,' their wicked, satirical take on Moliere's classic farce. Imagine if America were invaded by 'Frenchness,' and the only way to combat it was with rock 'n' roll. Add live music by Austin's indie-rock band Peel, a faux French art film by Teacup Picto-Films, some poetic musings by Austinist's TrueCraig and projections by Cari Palazzolo. But, wait, there's more — folks can bring their laptops and via an online chatroom projected on stage, everyone can post what they think when they think it. Today's opening night gala (March 15, 2007) features complimentary food and drinks. $15 ($2 off if you bring your laptop); $20 for tonight's (March 15) gala.

Yellow Tape & Austin Urban Grid Present 'Escape From SXSW':
An opening night gala for 'I Am Not Tartuffe.'
About the event: For everyone looking for something else to do while SXSW is in town, Yellow Tape and Austin Urban Grid are here for you! Free wine, cocktails and catering with all your favorite urbanites, followed by the premiere of Yellow Tape's latest theatrical masterpiece, I Am Not Tartuffe -- the only play ever where France is God. The first ten people to sign up and register with Austin Urban Grid will be chauffeured from downtown to the theatre at no additional charge!
About the performance: France is God. In a moment of freedom-hating existential crisis, God decides to infect America with the insidious disease of Frenchness. The Americans, led by their minister, Captain Jesus, defend our way of life with kick-ass rock music - supplied by Austin's indie giants, Peel.
As an added bonus, patrons can bring their laptops to comment on the show, as it's happening, via an online chatroom projected on stage - visible to both actors and audience.
Featuring an evil French art film of destruction by SXSW-bound filmmakers, Teacup Picto-films, choreography from Amanda Butterfield, script contributions by TrueCraig (writer of Austinist's Truesday column) and projections by Cari Palazzolo. Written and directed by Jonathon Morgan.
Yellow Tape Construction Co. is here to further the next generation of a truly great, wholly original, definitively American performance aesthetic. At the intersection of dance, theatre, music and performance art, we are creating a new community of artists and patrons -- laying a foundation of strength and support through innovative arts programming and fearless new work.
