May 26, 2005 Rank and Revue is dead, long live Reloaded Monthly. Rank co-founder Brenna Parthemore has sold her interest in the Red River tip sheet to new editor Lila Lieberman in order to concentrate on her hairdressing business. All parties say the split was quite amicable. Red River fixture Wendy WWAD will remain on board, with Lieberman, Joseph Claytor as general manager, and new graphic designer Chris Gates, also known from his time in the Big Boys and Junkyard, now leading the Charter Bulldogs. Look for the redesigned, renamed mag around town now. -- Joe Gross
Los Lonely Boys won a Pop Award from the performing rights organization BMI for the single "Heaven," one of the most played songs of 2004. Among non-Austin acts, 3 Doors Down's "Here Without You" won the title of BMI Pop Song of the Year. Hip-hop artist/producer Lil Jon wrote four songs on the Most Performed List of 50 Songs to collect the Songwriter of the Year nod. Man, a Los Lonely Boys song produced by Lil Jon would be cool. -- J.G.
"Paramount Stage Two: Hometown Heroes" is billed as a "non-gala" featuring Austin talent such as Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, Marcia Ball, Jimmy LaFave, Greater Tuna's Joe Sears and Jaston Williams, NPR's talent Marion Winik, Esther's Follies Magician Ray Anderson, and actor Turk Pipkin. But the show is one night only -- June 5 -- and downstairs tickets are going for $100 to $1,000. This sounds very much like a gala, even if balcony and mezzanine tickets can be had for $17.50 to $45. Tickets are available at the Paramount Box Office from noon to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, by phone at (866) 443-8849, online at www.gettix.net or at any Pinky's Wireless location. -- J.G.
The Creative Opportunity Orchestra has cooked up an amazing schedule. The avant-garde jazz/composition group will provide a live soundtrack to the silent classic "Nanook of the North," at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. June 2 at Alamo South. Composer/performers include Alex Coke and Tina Marsh; joining them are Russell Scanlon, Ed Jarusinsky and William Meadows. At 7 p.m. June 7 at the Victory Grill, Ron Miles, Dennis Gonzalez and Brannen Temple lead various quartets for an evening of quartet jazz. At 4 p.m. June 11, New York pianist Bob Rodriguez joins Austin pianist Eddy Hobizal for an afternoon of four-hand improvisation at the Steinway Piano Gallery (12980 N. U.S. 183). And the Orchestra itself returns to the Laguna Gloria Amphitheatre (3809 W. 35th St.) at 7:30 p.m. June 12. For information, check out www.creop.org, call 448-3485 or email creop@texas.net. -- J.G.
Nearly 20 acts, including Calvin Russell, Pat Mears, Ponty Bone, Waddell Brothers and John Arthur Martinez will play a benefit Sunday at Poodie's Hilltop in Spicewood for guitarist Gary Craft to help with medical bills. The music starts at 3 p.m. and goes all night. Name your own donation. Call 264-0318 for more info. -- Michael Corcoran
