Upscale restaurant in Lockhart under fire for making joke about sexual assault on social media

The Bill Cosby meme almost seemed to go unnoticed after it was attached to a post on Lockhart Bistro’s Facebook page hailing the restaurant’s French onion soup and a bone-in pork chop. But slowly, almost a week after the initial post, the angry comments started to roll in. Around the same time, Reddit users started buzzing about it.

The person behind Lockhart Bistro’s social media posted a couple of pictures of the soup and pork chop on Sept. 27 along with a meme of Cosby, who has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women. His smiling face was included in the meme with the words “Good morning, sleepyhead.”

Above that was the text from the bistro, which said in part: “We are also featuring our well marbled bone-in pork chop served with butternut squash and bok choy in a citrus ponzu sauce... It's just the thing to get at the Bistro... and I promise, you'll sleep so well you'd think you had help!”

Although the meme was later removed, Lockhart Bistro responded to the upset commenters in a way that a crisis management firm would probably advise against doing. Featuring another meme, this time of Yoda from “Star Wars” with the text “Sleepy I have become; boring these lecturers are,” the bistro said, “Hmmm... I wonder if the fake reviews will go away now that the highly offensive meme has been deleted.”

Though the Facebook post so far has not received the level of attention of other social media scandals — such as the one surrounding Rainey Street bar Unbarlievable this summer following racist online postings — Lockhart Bistro has received a handful of one-star reviews through the Facebook page as a result.

The bistro is the business of chef Parind Vora, who took his dream of a fine dining establishment to Lockhart after the closure of his jackets-only Restaurant Jezebel in early 2015. Lockhart Bistro, which appears slightly more casual, opened later that year.
