Nasty’s, a campus-area bar that has been an Austin institution since 1985, has closed and will turn into a bar called Back Lot, according to Eater Austin.

The owners of North Loop watering hole Workhorse Bar, Steve Ettle and Brent Broyles, have already made a note of the takeover on the home page of the Workhorse website

"We are grateful for all the great memories Nasty's has given us and to Jack (Bloom, Nasty’s owner) for allowing us the opportunity. Back Lot. Coming Soon!” the text on the website said.

The closure of Nasty’s also means the end of DJ Mel’s Monday night residency delivering a veritable four-hour dance party. DJ Mel is one of Austin’s better-known disc jockeys — he essentially served as former President Barack Obama’s personal DJ from 2012 to 2016.

Back Lot, the new bar, is slated to open in November and will have an “updated” neighborhood vibe similar to Workhorse Bar, according to Eater.

We’ll update this space with more details once we have them.
