The original “ACL” — “Austin City Limits,” the longest-running music program — premieres the first episodes from season 39 this weekend, and Terry Lickona and co. have assembled another year of veterans and acts on the rise, crossing all genres. Year 39 includes performances from Phoenix, Jim James, Emeli Sandé, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell, Shovels & Rope, the Lumineers and a selection from the recent Americana Music Awards in Nashville. Queens of the Stone Age record an episode Thursday, and Neko Case and Local Natives will be on the storied stage next week, in between the two weekends of the festival that borrows the famous name.
Season 39 debuts with a Latin theme, with back-to-back episodes from Colombian star Juanes and Mexican siblings Jesse & Joy. Check out the behind-the scene video from Juanes and watch the episodes, which air at 7 p.m. Saturday on KLRU.
