Meet the original ‘Most Interesting Man in the World’ — now peddling tequila in Austin

Jonathan Goldsmith, a.k.a. the "Most Interesting Man in the World," is coming to Austin to introduce Astral Tequila.

The star of all those Dos Equis ads you might recall of a suave older man always on some epic adventure is back after a year-long break, and he’s got a new tagline.

In the Dos Equis commercials, the smooth-talking spokesman would say, “I don’t always drink beer, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis” — which tequila company Astral Tequila has cleverly co-opted for its own marketing campaign. Now, the original ‘Most Interesting Man in the World,’ as he was called in the beer commercials, or Jonathan Goldsmith to everyone else, is all about the agave spirit.

“I told you I don’t always drink beer. I prefer tequila — Astral Tequila,” he says in a new video ad, which you can view on the Astral Tequila website

Even better, you can meet the man himself during one in a series of appearances July 28 at local liquor stores and restaurants. Got interesting stories of your own to share with him? Maybe he’ll buy you an Astral Margarita.

Astral Tequila was founded by master sommelier Richard Betts, who isn’t just well-versed in wine but in whiskey and other spirits like tequila. The tequila has gotten a double gold medal from San Francisco World Spirits Competition and was named one of the top 10 blanco tequilas by Food & Wine magazine, so maybe Goldsmith is really onto something.

Goldsmith emerged as the face of the Dos Equis brand in 2007 and helped the beer company nearly triple its business since his ‘Most Interesting Man’ campaign launched, according to Business Insider. Now, a younger man has taken his place for Dos Equis. But hey, he preferred tequila anyway.

Here’s his Austin schedule tomorrow. You can meet-and-greet with him at any of these places.
