Austin has Matthew McConaughey. Houston has Beyonce. But El Paso... El Paso has Khalid.

The recently Grammy-nominated 19-year-old has been called Chuco Town’s “adopted son” and hasn’t (even once) forgotten where he came from.

Khalid made a special visit to El Paso’s Crockett Elementary School Monday, the El Paso Times reports, where he surprised students with Hello Kitty dolls, footballs and over 500 other donated gifts.

According to the El Paso times, “Khalid adopted El Paso as his hometown after moving to El Paso prior to his senior year in high school. Khalid's mother was serving in the U.S. Army at the time and was stationed at Fort Bliss.”
