Sip a local beer while chowing down on fresh, hot pastries filled with the meat of one of Austin's best barbecue spots.

Kolaches and craft beer — an unexpected combination you’ll start craving now that kolache bakery, beer bar and bottle shop Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches is about to open on Manor Road.

Batch will open its doors at noon on Aug. 11, serving klobasniky and kolaches with Micklethwait Craft Meats and seasonal fruit alongside more than 400 beers. Enjoy a pint, whether that’s from the 12-tap draft wall or from coolers full of cans and bottles, with a kolache while sitting outside in the 2,000 sq. ft. beer garden, shaded by a canopy of 100-foot elm trees.

Does that sound like heaven? That’s the aim of the two brothers who have transformed a 3,000 sq. ft. 1940s-era stone ranch house into their dream business. Noah and Josh Lit, of the music group Noah and the MegaFauna, have loved having beer and kolaches together and wanted to share their love of the killer combination with locals.

“We started doing pop-ups at our favorite local breweries at the end of 2016 to make connections with our favorite brewers, show off our kolaches and keep us sane during the long months of construction,” Noah Lit said in a press release about the opening. “We sold out regularly, made friends and started spreading the word about Batch.”

For the bakery side of Batch, they sought the baking skills of pastry chef and owner of I Knead That Jasmine Jones, who has created a menu of eight signature kolaches and four rotating specials. Read more about those delicious baked goods here.

On the beer side, look for brews from local producers like Hops & Grain and Austin Beerworks and from national and international brands like Prairie Artisan Ales and Jolly Pumpkin. You can create your own six-pack to take home or, if you select a bottle or can from the coolers, get it uncorked at the bar for a small fee. (That fee is waived during weekday happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m.)

Stopping into Batch for breakfast? Have a cup of coffee instead of a pint of beer. Batch has partnered with locally owned Greater Goods Coffee Roasters to offer espresso and coffee options, including a special blend available only at Batch — “La Strada Espresso blend, which is inspired by traditional European espresso,” according to the release.

Greater Goods Coffee Roasters donates a portion of the proceeds from sales of its coffee to four area nonprofits.

Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches is at 3220 Manor Rd. and will be open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 9 a.m. to midnight Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays. For more information, visit batchatx.com.
