Austinites have one less place to satisfy their sweet tooth with the abrupt shuttering of Bribery Bakery in East Austin. Owner Jodi Elliott announced the closure via an email that she sent to customers, and she also posted a similar message to the bakery’s Facebook page this morning.
Having two bakeries — the original Bribery location on Wells Branch Parkway will remain open — just became too much of a struggle, she wrote. She opened the Mueller location last year not just with a variety of baked goods, but with a cafe food menu and booze, specifically wine and cocktails.
“With a mixture of emotions and a heavy heart, I wanted to let you guys know that I have decided to close our Mueller location effective today,” she wrote on Facebook. “I'm supposed to be stoic and upbeat but honestly it's been a difficult few years trying to juggle everything and I just burned out. I'm ready to reset and re focus on what really matters to me, personally and professionally.”
The Wells Branch location of Bribery, while not the “pink paradise” of the Mueller spot, will become Elliott’s “creative pastry workshop” and will allow her to go back to the basics, according to her messages.
“Oh and PS go to our website — we now offer delivery — so you can get cakes and special orders brought to your doorstep,” she wrote on Facebook.
