Move over, Banger’s and Craft Pride: Rainey Street is getting a new beer bar with Anthem, opening in the Millenium development at 91 Rainey this fall.

The primary retail tenant at the Millenium, an eight-story luxury apartment building, Anthem plans to have American pub food with Asian twists — as well as local and national beers, some of which will have their own Asian accents, like a jasmine IPA or a pale ale with lemongrass and green tea, according to a press release. (A new East Austin brewery, Orf, has its own Asian white ale that would certainly fit right in.)

Anthem is the creation of Austin native Anthony Hitchcock, who now co-owns the Omaha-based Flagship Restaurant Group in Nebraska but had been wanting to branch out to open a concept in his hometown.

The bar’s design, indeed, will pay tribute to his childhood home in the 1980s and ‘90s with “a mod vintage vibe” from a color palette of gold, greens and soft pinks. There will also be a patio, decked out with string lights, that Hitchcock aims to have a backyard-like appearance, according to the press release.

In addition to the 40 draft beers and eight wines by the glass, Anthem’s fare will include such items as charred edamame and “Smack Fries with crispy garlic, togarashi and parsley and served with sriracha ketchup and yuzu and parmesan-peppercorn aioli,” according to the release.

Plus, there will be a menu of casual cocktails ranging from both classics and modern spins, including tiki drinks.

Rainey Street, one of Austin’s most burgeoning entertainment districts, has continued to develop this year: circus-themed bar Unbarlievable opened in late winter, Banger’s announced a multimillion dollar expansion and No Va Kitchen + Bar closed earlier this month.
