Choreographer Allison Orr makes non-dancers dance: traffic police, sanitation workers, Elvis impersonators, gondola pilots and dog walkers and their dogs have all taken center stage over the years in her publicly friendly dance events.
Now, Orr employs the same formula she used in her super-popular “Trash Project” from a few years ago, her celebration of Austin’s sanitation workers and the equipment they use.
This time around, with “Power Up” the municipal workers/performers are the high-climbing linemen of Austin Energy and their bucket trucks, cranes and field trucks.
Orr again teams with composer Graham Reynolds for some original music to accompany the show, performed outside amidst a gathering of utility poles. Austin Symphony Orchestra conductor Peter Bay conducts a string orchestra.
