Sunny Italy Restaurant & Pizzeria is a classic example of a true hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant.
The place has a sense of personality and a homey feel you won't find in a big chain restaurant. Pictures of Italy's historic and cultural attractions such as Rome's Trevi Fountain and The Colosseum adorned the wall next to our table, and two wooden benches painted in green, red and white stripes - the colors of the Italian flag - flanked the door.
Inside, the food complimented the decor with its homestyle goodness.
We started the meal with an order of six garlic rolls ($1). The fluffy rolls were served in a dish with a pool of oil and garlic pieces in the bottom, perfect for dipping. We quickly finished off the rolls and our server brought us another batch at no cost.
One guest ordered veal parmigiana ($13.25). He said the pasta, sauce and cheese were tasty, but the veal itself was a little chewy. Another friend ordered manicotti ($8). Overall, the dish was flavorful, with tender pasta and yummy ricotta cheese.
A third friend ordered a mini pizza topped with broccoli and green peppers ($7.50). She enjoyed the pizza, but said the crust was a bit dry.
I ordered penne alla vodka with cheese, spinach and mushrooms ($13.50). The dish also featured slices of julienned chicken. I really enjoyed this dish, with its perfect blend of flavors and fresh-tasting spinach and mushrooms.
The tomato vodka sauce was just the right mixture of tangy and creamy, and the chicken was well seasoned and surprisingly tender.
The service at Sunny Italy also was very good.
Our waiter promptly took our order and kept the drink refills and garlic rolls coming.
Sunny Italy is definitely a restaurant I would visit again.

Quaint restaurant scores points for Italian cuisine! Friendly restaurant in a hard-to-find location. Small size, some chairs uncomfortable. Interesting decor, kind of out dated, but don't less this deter you from coming out. Service was on the ball and very helpful. Salads are pretty good, nice variety of greens and veggies. Bread - typical chain Italian rolls sopped in grease. Ask for them without oil for healthier treat. Ordered the Fra Diavolo - plenty of seafood decorating tasty chunky tomato sauce. Seafood ranges from shrimp scallops, muscles, clams and maybe crab. I would have preferred less muscles and clams and more scallops. The scallops were tender and flavorful. Friend ordered chicken alla vodka which he loved. Great sauce and pletny of chicken. both dishes were very large - lots of left overs. Nice place to get away to for a good bite to eat and good price. For both of us (no alcohol) $28.
