APS cheating scandal as the AJC reported it

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's investigative reporters broke the story about widespread cheating on tests in Atlanta Public Schools in December, 2008, and we've continued digging ever since.

The Bat Fest was celebrated Saturday evening on the Ann Richards Congress Ave. bridge with music, food, vendors and artistry for the masses culminating in the nightly flight of thousands of Mexican free-tail bats from under the bridge. Drifter Patrick Kearns, also known as Rain Wolf, hitch-hiked into Austin on his way to Santa Cruz. "I planned to stay her only two days and it's been three weeks. I love this town." said Kearns, who is enjoying the sights and sounds of Bat Fest.

The annual holiday Christmas trees that grace the interiors of the Capitol arrived on the south steps Monday morning from the Elves Farm in Denison. Marshall Cathey, President of the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association, delivered the trees on a horse-drawn carriage. Sharlote Cathey, wife of Marshall, with sons Kensler, 10 months old, Cooper, 9, and Hunter, 12, pet the horse belonging to the Austin's Die Gelbe Rose carriages.

 Despite the closure of the annual holiday Trail of Lights, people can still gather under the moonlight tower otherwise known as the Zilker Holiday Tree for family fun, food and entertainment. Siblings Alyssa Ramos, 8, and Lexi, 5, have fun spinning under the tree with their uncle Alan Gonzales, who is visiting from Dallas.
