KATHY BLACKWELL
Title: Assistant features editor/fashion and home design editor
Hometown: York, S.C.
Number of years in Austin: 4
Favorite clothing purchase this year: Orla Kiely reversible sleeveless shirt (from Therapy).
Favorite shoe purchase this year: My marrying shoes, Taryn Rose gold slides with flower (from Fetish's big half-off sale).
What I love about Austin: Sitting outside at Club de Ville, the Soup Peddler, Little City, the biannual Le Garage Sale, Running of the Bulls parties, free Saturday afternoons at the Continental Club, Sinners Brunch at Jo's Coffee, the Town Lake Trail, the sound at the Parish, Christmas on 37th Street, the Waterloo/Book People corner, the Texas Book Festival, the first day of every SXSW, the Jeff McCord/Angela Miller lineup Fridays on KUT.
Best concert seen in Austin: Elvis Costello, The Backyard, October 2002.
Favorite TV shows that I'll own up to watching: "The Daily Show," "The Sopranos," "What Not to Wear" (the BBC version only), "World Poker Tour," baseball games on the MLB cable package.
My favorite guilty pleasure on TV: I still can't own up to it but involves people with names such as Coral, Syrus, Veronica and Abe and has the word "Challenge" in its title.
Favorite athlete: Johnny Damon (aka the Passion of the Red Sox).
Books I've recently enjoyed: "Moveable Feast" by Hemingway, "Middlesex," by Jeffrey Eugenides, "The Brothers K" by David James Duncan, "To The Lighthouse" by Virginia Woolf.
Movies I've recently enjoyed: "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "The Station Agent."
Favorite music, an incomplete list: Spoon, Wilco, Yo La Tengo, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Patty Griffin, the Replacements.
All-time favorite "Saturday Night Live" skits: Blue Oyster Cult's "Behind the Music" with Christopher Walken ("I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell") and the commercial for "Beatles Songs You Kind of Know the Words To" (the Mike Myers/Dana Carvey years).
Things I don't understand: Why people elbow their way to stand in front of you at $50 concerts and then proceed to talk talk talk to each other; who ratted out Johnny Sack; why it has to be either Jeff Tweedy or Jay Farrar we need both, darn it; the success of "American Idol"; people who wear shorts to dinner at nice restaurants.
