Bealls has closed two of its Austin stores.
The department store chain, part of Houston-based Stage Stores, shuttered its stores in the Windsor Village shopping center at 5811 Berkman Drive in Northeast Austin and the Westgate shopping center at 4477 S. Lamar Blvd. in Southwest Austin.
The two Austin stores were among eight nationwide that were closed this month, a Stage Stores spokeswoman said.
“Stage Stores is planning to close stores as we take steps to further strengthen our company and better serve our customers and communities,” the chain said in a written statement. “This allows us to focus our investments and operations to deliver productivity and growth.”
Bealls still has an Austin location in the Southpark Meadows shopping center, 9500 S. Interstate 35 in South Austin, as well as stores in a number of surrounding communities, including Bastrop, Cedar Park, Elgin, Georgetown, Marble Falls, Pflugerville, Round Rock and Taylor.
Nationwide, Stage Stores has more than 800 stores operating under several different names.
