Your ideal Stones set

So, Austin, what with the news regarding the Rolling Stones coming to Austin, what is your ideal 25-song Stones set?

Here’s mine:

  1.   Rocks Off
  2.  Sway
  3.  Jumpin’ Jack Flash
  4.  She Said Yeah
  5.  Don’t Stop*
  6.  I Got the Blues
  7.  Tumbling Dice
  8.  Dandelion
  9.  I Am Waiting
  10.  Let’s Spend the Night Together
  11.  Play With Fire
  12.  Dead Flowers
  13.  Happy
  14.  Under My Thumb
  15.  Honky Tonk Women
  16.  Paint it Black
  17.  Miss You
  18.  Get Off of My Cloud
  19.  Beast of Burden
  20.  Love in Vain
  21.  Monkey Man
  22.  Satisfaction
  23.  Brown Sugar
  24.  Gimme Shelter
  25.  You Can’t Always Get What You Want

*Yeah, I know, I know. It’s from the 21st century. I still think it’s one of the better songs from that period.

I couldn’t care less, and wouldn’t take free tickets except to sell them to some other late arrivals. I’m from here, and Austin was cool before they were. We weren’t good enough for them until now, they aren’t god enough for us anymore. Don’t waste your money on the hype.

Rip This Joint Stray Cat Blues Gimme Shelter Live With Me Midnight Rambler Monkey Man Love in Vain Before They Make Me Run Happy Far Away Eyes Paint It Black Play With Fire Time is on My Side 19th Nervous Breakdown Wild Horses Satisfaction Jumpin Jack Flash Miss You Shattered Waiting On A Friend Used to Love Her (but it’s all over now) Just Wanna See His Face Sympathy for the Devil I realize this is a lot, but at the ticket prices I suspect they’ll recieve, it won’t hurt the Stones to stick around a while and do a good long two-set show. (Since this is my ideal setlist, I won’t take endurance into account)

I would have added Moonlight Mile and No Expectations, although the absence of Brian Jones may cause this tune to suffer. You also left out Sympathy for the Devil and Wild Horses. Monkey Man would be awesome to see live and so would i got the blues if they can snag that organ player. Good picks Joe.

I like your choices Joe. I like “Don’t Stop” too. It’s an under appreciated tune. I’d add “Rocks Off” if I had a vote. The press conference should be in about an hour, if the rumors are true. Great stuff.

Good grief! Zilker Park; terrible accoustics, insects, heat; how miserable. I won’t pay a penny over $200 for a ticket.

Your set list is good however; must include Sympathy for the Devil Start Me Up Time On My Side It’s All Over Now

why do you do this? you know it just makes both of our jobs harder when we have to report that they’re not coming after all. the very first front-page article I ever wrote for the daily texan was about how the stones were set to announce a show in memorial stadium. still waiting on that one too…
